How to up university rankings by changing your name – too good to be true?

The Victoria University of Wellington Vice Chancellor Grant Guilford believes Vic can get a higher ranking if it changes its name by dropping the word “Victoria”, provided it is well marketed.

Truly amazing he believes ranking agencies, such as QS and THE, believe their ranking systems can be gamed in this way.  So much for academic integrity!!

The banking industry might like to do the same to get better ratings out of the likes of Standard and Poors.
